Sophia Johansen (nee Materek) 100 passed away peacefully on Sunday evening surrounded by her loving family at their home in Maine. Sophie was born in New York and settled in Hoboken; and lived here most of her life.
She worked for many years at Dell Publishers in New York City and was very active member of our community here in Hoboken. Sophie will be sorely missed. She was the loving wife of the late Harry Johansen, dear sister of the lattes Olga Achorn and Edward Materek. She is survived by loving nieces and nephews Myra Achorn, Mark Achorn, Harold Achorn Jr., and Sandra Jordon.
Great Nieces and Nephews Bradley Achorn (Nancy), ,Suzanne Burg (Sonny), Jean Irving, Nicholas Jordon, Denise Jordan (Jessie). +Great Great Nieces and Nephews Hannah Achorn, Jacob Achorn, Charlie Pursley, Sam Burg, Jennifer Irving, Chris Irving, Emma and Abby Young, and Owen Jordan. Visitation for Sophie will be at the Lawton – Turso Funeral Home corner of 7th and Washington Sts. Hoboken on Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with her funeral Mass on Friday 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Grace Church in Hoboken. She will be laid to rest with her beloved Husband Harry in at the Arlington Nation Cemetery in Arlington Virginia. In lieu of flower please make contributions in her memory to the animal shelter of your choice.
