Salvatore F Acerra – November 14, 2017

Salvatore F. Acerra passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at the Bayonne Hospital after a long illness. Sal was 95 years old and a lifelong Hoboken resident.

He was affectionately known as “Hoboken Sal” to his friends in the neighborhood.  Sal was a proud WW II combat Navy veteran. He leaves behind his loving sister Rose Scalzo, his sister-in-law Mary Acerra and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his wife Agnes, brothers Armando, Alberto, and Emilio Acerra.  Sal was employed as a Longshoreman checking incoming cargo.  He later worked for the City of Hoboken under Mayor Grogan’s administration.  Sal was a dapper, gentle man who along with his wife Agnes enjoyed trips to Italy to visit family, as well as Florida and Atlantic City.  Sal was generous and kind to all and will be deeply missed.

There will be a visitation for Salvatore today Wednesday Nov.15, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Lawton-Turso Funeral Home corner of 7th and Washington Sts., Hoboken. Sal will have a Liturgy of Christian Burial offered on Thursday 9:30 AM at the St. Peter & Paul Church on 4th and Hudson St., Hoboken with his burial immediately following at Holy Name Cemetery Jersey City.
