José Antonio Classen, 73, passed away Sunday morning at the Hoboken University Medical Center surrounded by his caring family.
José was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and lived most his life here in Hoboken. He served our community for many years as a Hoboken police officer, owned a dry cleaner in 1968 located on 2nd and Park Ave. in Hoboken as well as a tavern on 8th and Adams St. He loved sports, especially football and softball, as well as playing dominoes at Esperanza and thrived for the challenge of winning in front of a crowd. He is survived by his loving children Joseph, Tyrone and Rodney Classen, Sharon Classen, Daisy Gonzalez, and Lillian Reyes. He will also be missed by his loving sister Carmen Guzman, and is also survived by 10 cherished grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation for José will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Lawton-Turso Funeral Home on the corner of 7th and Washington Sts. with parking on 7th St. There will also be a Funeral Mass offered for José on Friday 10:30 AM at the St Joseph’s Church in Hoboken. Cremation Private.
