Peter Jay Imus – December 13, 2018

Peter Jay Imus, 24, of Hoboken, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 13, 2018.

Peter was born in Red Bank, NJ to Jay and Diane Imus on September 27, 1994. He graduated from St. Peter’s Preparatory School in 2012 and earned his BFA in 2017 from Alfred University. Peter followed his life’s passion working as a glass artist, and enjoyed everything outdoors: hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, camping and boating, as well as music, film, cooking, and most important, being with friends and family. His accomplishments also included the Silver Medalist Award from St. Peter’s Prep and a scholarship to the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina while in college.

Peter had a heart of gold and loved life, adventure, beauty, and nature. To know him was to love him. A free spirit who made everyone feel special and treasured, Peter expressed his talent, energy and passion through his art and shared it with the many, many friends he treasured throughout his life. Peter’s gift to all of us was his intrinsic kindness and welcoming love for family and friends.  There was nothing better than a hug from Peter.

He was an amazing brother who adored his time with his siblings, as well as his extended family and friends.  He would think nothing of jumping on a plane at a moment’s notice to spend his birthday with his father and family in Key West, or meet his parents and siblings in Portugal, or simply drive up to the woods to hike and camp with his friends.  He had adventure in his soul.

Peter shared his charm and grace equally with those he knew well and those whose path he had just crossed. His welcoming spirit was evident the second you met him; people were drawn to him. Peter found great happiness teaching and working with children at Hidden Valley Camp in Maine where he spent the past three summers. This work allowed him to do all the things he loved in one place: creating art, teaching children, and sharing his passion for the beauty of the great outdoors.

Though our time with Peter was not long enough, we will always hold him in our hearts. Blessed with a beautiful and giving spirit, he showed us how to love fiercely and live life with passion.

Peter’s memory will be cherished by his loving parents, Jay and Diane, his siblings, Mark and Madeline, his grandparents Arleen Imus, Norbert and Marie Gambuzza, his dear Aunts and Uncles, Nancy, Steve, Norbert, Ellen, Steven, Siobhan, Susan, Lisa, Gregg and Patrick, and his cousins, Amanda, James, Lily, Michael, Charlie, Anna, Fiona, Ryan, Lucia, Mariano, Hugo, Sonja, Justin, Kim, Marty, Sarah, and Amy. Peter joins his grandfather Russel Imus in the memory of his family.

Visitation for Peter will be held at Lawton-Turso Funeral Home, 633 Washington Street, Hoboken, NJ (corner of Washington and Seventh Streets, parking on Seventh Street) on Wednesday December 19, 2018 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at St. Peter’s Prep in O’Keefe Commons, 144 Grand Street, Jersey City, NJ on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Private burial/cremation.

Memorial donations may be made in Peter’s name to support the art program he so loved at St. Peter’s Prep. Checks may be written to St. Peter’s Prep, 144 Grand St., Jersey City, NJ 07302, or donate online at www.spprep.org. Please note that your donation is in memory of Peter Imus.
