Eugene “Gene” Hernandez, 62, of Hoboken NJ passed on May 4, 2019 at Hackensack Hospital.
Gene was born in New York City to Eugenio and Esperanza Hernandez and was the oldest of three children. Gene attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and the City College of New York where he studied English. After college, Gene went to work with DHL eventually transferring to their Los Angeles offices in 1984 and subsequently working with Federal Express. Gene returned to New Jersey after the passing of his father in 2006 to care for his mother, his nieces, and nephew as well as maintaining the family’s various real estate holdings.
Gene will always be remembered for his quick wit, his infectious laugh, and his great love of sports, politics, and people. He had an incredible way of bringing out the best in people.
Gene’s memory will be cherished by his mother Esperanza, and his two siblings Esperanza Marra and Peter Hernandez.
The Hernandez family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Christ Hospital of Jersey City, the staff at Care One Wellington in Hackensack, NJ as well as the teams of staff members at both the John Theurer Cancer Center and Hackensack Hospital where he passed in peace and comfort.
Visitation for Gene will be on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Lawton-Turso Funeral Home in Hoboken, 633 Washington Street (corner of Washington and Seventh Streets, parking on Seventh). Family members will gather at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 9th, to travel to Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ (340 Ridge Road).
