Emily Duncan, 61, of Brooklyn, NY passed away unexpectedly on April 7, 2020.
Born to Lillie Mae Jacobs and Henry Jacobs on September 13, 1958 in Brooklyn, Emily grew to be a beacon of love for those in her family and for the many she served with her skills as a social worker. Earning her degree from Audrey Cohen College in Human Services, Bachelor of Professional Services in 1999, Emily worked as an ACS worker for over 30 years. Building upon her experience, she launched her own business, Emily’s Childcare and Learning Center, serving as administrator and coordinating childcare and educational programs for younger children.
The compassion and dedication Emily showed in her work was magnified in the expression of her heart for her family. Emily was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt, and overall friend to many. Whether finding joy in traveling, cooking, or dancing, her dearest comfort was cherished time among her family. Emily’s light would shine brightly as she brought life to a party, and would be a comforting peace guiding family and friends as a problem solver through life’s most difficult challenges. She was the very example of a life lived by faith, and living the idea of love as actions, not just feelings within us.
Emily has found eternal peace in God’s embrace and rejoined her beloved father, her loving first husband, Leroy Moore (m. 1978), and her dear brother Henry Jacobs Jr. in the hearts of her family. Beloved by many, Emily’s memory will be always cherished by her dear mother, her loving second husband, Robert Duncan (m. Jan. 7, 1995), her beloved children including Sharffee, Jewels, and Markeef Moore, and Ayasha, Bobbie, and La’Quadia Duncan, her dear siblings, Teresa (Charles), Monetta (William), and Lillian, her 10 grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and best friends.
The family plans to share additional information on celebrations of Emily’s life when we may all join together again in safety and community. Updates will be available here as they become available.
