Esperanza Hernandez – November 17, 2020

Mrs. Esperanza Hernandez (nee Muzalan), 95, of Hoboken, passed away on November 17, 2020.

Born to Teofilo Muzalan and Maria Pichardo on September 16, 1925 in Tenares, Dominican Republic, Esperanza grew in a life of faith and love, surrounded by her family. Emigrating at the height of the Great Depression in 1939, her talents as a seamstress helped her make her way in her new home. She worked with a number of companies until earning a job in the mid 1950s with Remar Togs where she worked until her retirement in the 1980s, eventually rising and serving in the ILGWU as Union Chair Lady (of her team).

Esperanza met Eugenio Hernandez upon arriving to the United States and the two were united in Holy Matrimony on December 19, 1948. In time they were blessed with three children, Eugene, Esperanza, and Peter Hernandez. Sharing her deep faith and love, Esperanza rejoiced every accomplishment of her children and grandchildren, and was well known for cooking delicious Dominican and Cuban dishes There was always a hot cup of coffee or tea and kindness waiting to be shared, and if you happen to drop by (unannounced) to be sure you ALWAYS received a blessing from her as God’s embrace when you left her company. She was a constant presence of generous comfort and strength to any in need.

She rejoins her beloved husband, her cherished son, Eugene, her dear brother, Francisco “Paco” Pichardo, her loving parents, and all her dear departed family in God’s peace. She loved so well, and her sweet, gentle influence will remain and be forever cherished in the lives of her children; Esperanza (and devoted husband Alexander), Peter (and his devoted wife Stephane and her daughter Rebecca), and her five adoring grandchildren: Alyssa (and her devoted husband Jeff), Peter, Stephanie, Lauren, and Ava.

  1. She was a wonderful person always ready to help in time of need. The family and daughters of Raphael saba loved her dearly and may god grant her peace .

  2. She was a kind, loving and special person who loved to talk about her family and life experiences. Her presence gave a warm feeling of comfort to anyone that knew her, one of the most kindest and gentle persons one could have ever known. May she rest in peace and be welcomed by all that have passed before her.
