Susanna “Sue” McInerney (nee Scarpulla), 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18th, 2020 in Venice, Florida, in the company of her loving daughters Kathleen Castellano and Patricia Norton.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”
Susanna was born on August 14, 1924 in Hoboken, New Jersey. She married John M. McInerney (predeceased Hoboken Firefighter), they had 5 children and regularly loved hosting Italian style Sunday dinners. She shared 96 years of unconditional love, faith, laughter, amazing memories, and an unyielding will to overcome any obstacle. She passed that will and that perseverance to all her children: Patricia, Jack, Kathleen, Dennis and Michael each with an indomitable spirit.
She was known for her great sense of humor, playing cards, making homemade pasta, baking, going out to restaurants and many good times with everyone.
Predeceased by her husband John “Mac” McInerney, her sisters, Cecilia Montecalvo, Phyllis Totaro and her brother Ciro Scarpulla; she leaves wonderful memories to her daughter Patricia Norton (Richard), Jack McInerney (Judy), Kathleen Castellano (Philip), Dennis McInerney (Rose), and Michael McInerney (Alexandra); her adoring grandchildren, Laurie, John, Philip, Dennis, Michael, Michele and Erin; her treasures were her great grand-children Julia, Marc, Micah, Ava, Nikolas, Amelia, Liam, and Carina; her dear sister Connie (James) Vecchione and so many relatives, friends, neighbors who will always remember her joking antics and wonderful sense of humor, that never-ending smile, contagious laugh, her quick wit, her love of dessert and playing cards.
She retired from the Hoboken Housing Authority as a HUD Representative at age 70 but quickly devoted all her time to her children, grand-children and even taught her great grandchildren her love of cards, cooking and quick wit.
