Born in Middletown, NY, James attended Goshen Central High School and received an Associate’s Degree from Hudson County Community College. James was a member of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army where he served in Afghanistan. After his military career, James worked in the Engineering department at the Manhattan Campus for the Department of Veteran Affairs where he put his skills to work helping other veterans. He enjoyed working with his hands whether it was carpentry, automobiles or building something to solve a problem. In his free time, James enjoyed camping, fishing, whipping up a delicious meal and eating an entire container of ice cream in one sitting.
James is survived by his parents, James and Patricia Owen; his sister, Kristen Owen; his beloved dog, Jeffrey; and his aunts, uncles and cousins. James was preceded in death by his grandparents and cousin Cheryl Owen.
Services will be private with a memorial service to be held at a later date. If you are so inclined, please offer a donation in James’ name to help other veterans through The Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) or to help animals in need through Catskill Animal Rescue in Ferndale, NY. (catskillanimalrescue.net).
James will be sorely missed by his loving family and we will forever cherish the time we had together.
So very sorry for your loss. I only knew James a short time but found him to be a man of integrity.
